Blizzard temporarily disabled crossplay w Diablo 4 - both between PC and consoles, as well as between PS4 and PS5 and XOne and XSX/S. All because of a bug that crept into the game with yesterday's update 1.2.3.
It caused the level of all glyphs - special items that can be placed in slots on paragon boards, unlocked when a character reaches level 50 - of each player to drop by one. Seemingly this is not a big deal, but if a given glyph has been upgraded to exactly level 15. (the maximum is 21.), due to the bug in question will decrease its radius.
What is the radius of a glyph? It is a red field covering the nodes around it. It increases with the level of the glyph, with its maximum reach at level 15.
Why is it so important? Because each glyph can provide an additional bonus. In turn, unlocking it requires buying a certain number of points of one of the four traits - strength, intelligence, willpower or dexterity - in the nodes covered by the glyph's radius. Thus, the larger it is, the easier it is to meet the requirements of a given bonus, without having to "waste" mastery points.
What follows, the bug in question can completely spoil a character build, depriving it of a number of important bonuses. Quite amusing - although certainly not to everyone - seems to be the fact that this mishap happened to Blizzard at the start of the Abattoir of Zir event. It is intended for seasonal characters at experience level 100, and therefore also very difficult. The power drop caused by the error could therefore prevent players from meeting the challenges awaiting them.
Fortunately, Blizzard was quite quick to realize the issues - which it caused - and began releasing patches. In the first instance, the problem was fixed on PC - people playing Diablo IV on consoles still have to wait a little longer for an appropriate patch. The crossplay function was disabled precisely because of its absence.
It is worth adding that glyphs can now be upgraded without fear of wasting resources. After all, the experience points invested in them will be restored with the patch and added to the overall pool.
