SteamWorld Build is a mix of city builder and dungeon builder. Those two elements overlap in this game, and it is necessary to develop both aspects to progress further. One of the examples of such dependency is when you want to break Granite. While these blocks are underground, destroying them is impossible without a proper town development. In this guide we will tell you about it.

How to break Granite blocks in SteamWorld Build

If you happen to find yourself in the situation when you want to break Granite blocks, you have to develop your town.

  1. Firstly, you have to get an access to Aristobots by fulfilling all your engineers’ needs.
  2. Next, make your Aristobot population bigger and unlock Carburizing Plant. This refinery will provide you with Carbide Drills which will allow you to break Granite blocks.
  3. To build Carburizing Plant, make sure that you have a proper income of Ironium (from mines) and Oil (from Oil Refinery which will refine Crude Oil from mines).

Those drills have a very specific purpose during exploration phase. While important and necessary in mines, they are not very useful for other things. If you struggle with Oil or Ironium shortages, it is advisable to pause Carburizing Plant and control number of drills.
